What Do You Remember About 1984?

NSA office 1984This year NSA celebrates 30 years of providing innovative tech solutions to wholesale distribution businesses. Our founding year was a landmark year in world events, entertainment and technology. Let’s take a look back at what made 1984 great…

“Where’s the beef?” was the catchphrase of the year (as was Arnold Schwarznegger’s robot assassin’s famous line from The Terminator, “I’ll be back”). Hollywood brought us two popular comedies that took place at the precinct: Police Academy and Beverly Hills Cop. Ghostbusters, Footloose and Against All Odds launched number one songs for Ray Parker Jr., Kenny Loggins, and Phil Collins. Your mix tapes probably included some of these number one hits:

  • “Karma Chameleon”, Culture Club
  • “Time After Time”, Cyndi Lauper
  • “The Reflex”, Duran Duran
  • “When Doves Cry”, Prince
  • “Like A Virgin”, Madonna

In 1984, we watched the Ewing and Barnes’ oil families clash on Dallas as they competed for ratings with Dynasty’s superwealthy Carrington’s and Colby’s. That summer we proudly watched Carl Lewis, Mary Lou Retton and Greg Louganis win US gold in the Los Angeles Summer Olympics.

In world news, Bishop Desmond Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize, Indian Prime Minister Indira Ghandi was assassinated, and the AIDS virus was identified by a French Immunologist. In our founding year, great strides were also made in technology. The Apple Macintosh was brought to market alongside the first 3 ½” computer disks and CD players. DNA profiling was developed by molecular biologist, Alec Jeffreys, and the Space Shuttle Discovery had its maiden voyage.

A lot has changed since 1984, but at NSA, our commitment to high quality, innovative and cost-effective solutions for distribution businesses has remained the same. To learn more about how NSA Computer Exchange Corp can help your company, contact us at 516.240.6020 or solutions@nsa.yourdmc.com.
